Nabeel Zafar believes it is meaningless to constantly getting an award

A prominent figure in the Pakistani entertainment business, Nabeel Zafar recently spoke on the Adnan Faisal Podcast and shared genuine insights into the workings of the awards culture. The Bulbulay star, whose career has spanned decades, provides insightful commentary on the subtleties and complexity of a field where fame is frequently accompanied by scrutiny. Her candor is balanced by her restraint.

Zafar provided a frank assessment on the status of awards in the entertainment business today. When questioned about awards, the actor made scathing remarks about lobbying and claimed that recipients shouldn’t have to defend their honors since doing so negates the point of winning.

He asked, “Shall I tell you?” “The problem is that when you get an award and have to keep justifying…saying this is why you have received the award…then…” He laughed as he drifted off, his facial expressions perfectly capturing his feelings. “I think such awards should be in Pakistan,” the actor continued. What is a prize? Thank you, is it correct? When you don’t give a real person an award, you’re not showing appreciation correctly. You bring injustice into the world.”

Drawing on his own experiences, Zafar talked about his time serving on a jury for an unnamed award show and how his insightful questions and critical analysis got him kicked off of panels going forward. His story is a moving reminder of the politics that frequently infiltrate award ceremonies, where skill and merit may be overshadowed by personal agendas and biases. He disclosed: “I was asked to judge some prizes once. They call you months in advance, and no one knows who is passing judgment. I stood up for real issues…The following year, I did not receive a callback.”

Zafar’s comments coincide with discussions about the legitimacy and openness of entertainment industry awards that are becoming more and more heated. A rising number of artists and industry insiders are calling for a more equitable and fair recognition system, and his willingness to speak truth to power and question the established quo reflects this desire.

Inquiries concerning Adnan Siddiqui’s remarks comparing women to flies were also directed against the artist. Zafar chuckled and remarked, “I think he was being comedic.” Zafar’s observations on the culture around awards are a timely reminder of the importance of honesty and equity in the field of entertainment recognition, even as he continues to captivate audiences.
