Alcaraz Shines with New Haircut Beats Opelka

Alcaraz Shows Off Bold New Haircut, Cruises Past Opelka in US Open Opener

New York – Carlos Alcaraz arrived at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday night with a striking new look: a sharp, military-style crew cut. While the 22-year-old Spaniard’s fresh style drew mixed reactions — close friend and fellow player Frances Tiafoe jokingly called it “terrible” — it clearly didn’t slow him down on the court.

Alcaraz dominated the first-round matchup against towering American Reilly Opelka, racing to a 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 victory over the 6-foot-11 star.

“Today was a really difficult one,” Alcaraz admitted after the match. “Reilly is a great, tough player. I couldn’t get the rhythm that I wanted, but I’m really happy with what I did today. I played a great match.”

The crowd also got a chance to weigh in on Alcaraz’s haircut. With a playful grin, he asked the New York fans, “I think I’ve got to ask the people if they like it or not. I think they like it,” earning cheers and laughter.

On the court, Alcaraz wasted little time asserting control. He broke Opelka in the fifth game of the first set and never looked back, serving out the set to love. In the second set, after saving two break points at 3-3, he broke in the 11th game and held to take a commanding 2-0 lead.

The third set remained tight until the ninth game, when Alcaraz secured another decisive break to lead 5-4. A long forehand return from Opelka set up three match points, and Alcaraz closed it out with a blistering forehand down the line.

Next up for Alcaraz is Italy’s Mattia Bellucci in the second round.
