Following the announcement on his well-known social media platform about the impending premiere of a new series with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), Tesla CEO Elon Musk is getting closer to entering the ring.
According to The Sun (US), WWE and X, formerly known as Twitter, have entered into a two-year agreement for the airing of timed matches that last five minutes or less as part of a program called WWE Speed.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that the show, which is scheduled to premiere in the spring, will also be broadcast live to tape and include unique content that isn’t included or used differently in other WWE programming.
With weekly airings, WWE Speed will feature some of the biggest stars in the business. Fans can anticipate 52 weeks of scheduled matches including wrestlers from RAW, Smackdown, and NXT.
The wrestling organization’s most recent action follows the renewal of its network and broadcast agreements. In November, it inked a five-year agreement with The CW Network, which will be the network’s first wrestling-related program on the platform since WWE SmackDown’s 2008 broadcast.
The CW will expand the NXT’s reach to 100 million American households, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
For the first time since the show’s beginning 31 years ago, Monday Night Raw will be going to Netflix starting in 2025, at a cost to the company of more than $5 billion. This announcement came from WWE last month.
In the meantime, X continues to play around with its website’s streaming offerings; the social media site already has deals in place for shows with former CNN host Don Lemon and sports talk broadcaster Jim Rome.
