Here’s Why You Need 5 Hobbies

A hobby by definition means “an activity or interest pursued for pleasure or relaxation and not as a main occupation”. Wikipedia says that it “includes collecting themed items and objects, engaging in creative and artistic pursuits, playing sports, or pursuing other amusements.” We all love to do something to unwind and keep our minds off things. And while most of us resort to mindlessly falling prey to scrolling paralysis on Instagram, others have found better ways to indulge, learn from, or maybe find repose in.

Here’s a list of five (5) hobbies you need to inculcate to lead a much more fulfilling life.

One That Will Make You Money

A hobby that generates your income doesn’t only empower you financially but it’s also like shooting two birds with a single arrow. Firstly, you’d be making money by doing something you could have done for free, even if given a choice.  Making bucks out of it is just an added bonus, like frosting and cherries on top of a delicious cake.

One That’s For Your Physical Health

Keeping your physical health in check is vital in ensuring that you lead a gratifying life. There have been various studies that have proved that indulging in physical activity improves brain performance, sharpens your memory, burns calories, prevents signs of aging, improves your quality of sleep, and also reduces feelings of anxiety and depression. Now, if you’re not a big fan of going to the gym and lifting weights, you can resort to other activities and maybe adopt them as your new favorite hobbies. Physical activity is any form of exercise or movement of the body that uses energy. Some of your daily life activities—doing active chores around the house, yard work, walking the dog—are examples.

Take help from the list below.

Type 1: Aerobics

Aerobic activities make you breathe harder and make your heart and blood vessels healthier. These include:

  • Walking
  • Dancing
  • Swimming
  • Water aerobics
  • Jogging and running
  • Aerobic exercise classes
  • Bicycle riding (stationary or on a path)
  • Some gardening activities, such as raking and pushing a lawnmower
  • Tennis
  • Golfing (without a cart)

Type 2: Flexibility

Flexibility-enhancing activities ensure a good range of motion in the joints. Loss of flexibility can be a predisposing factor for physical issues, such as pain syndromes or balance disorders. Gender, age, and genetics may all influence a range of motion. Flexibility exercises include:

  • Stretching
  • Yoga
  • Tai Chi or Qi Gong
  • Pilates

Type 3: Muscle Strengthening

Muscle-strengthening activities build up your strength. These activities work all the different parts of the body—legs, hips, back, chest, stomach, shoulders, and arms—and include:

  • Heavy gardening (digging, shoveling)
  • Lifting weights
  • Push-ups on the floor or against the wall
  • Sit-ups
  • Working with resistance bands (long, wide rubber strips that stretch)
  • Pilates

One That Keeps You Creative

How much time do you spend working on yourself? How much time do you spend working on your dream? In the last 90 days, how many good books you’ve read? And in the past few months, what new skill or knowledge have you acquired? What kind of investment have you made in yourself?

See, whatever you’re doing, how you spend your time, which tells you who you are. You need to find yourself until you lose yourself completely.

This is a life class. That means that we have an opportunity to learn how to maximize our lives. Think of the things that you’re doing that somebody else could be doing. And think of yourself as a precious commodity that you’re going to reserve your energies for your highest and best use. Think of it in this way. Have you ever asked yourself, are you being effective? In a world like today, are you really effective or is your life cluttered with all kinds of stuff that demands you and drains you and taxes you, and stops you from being your highest and best self?

They say, “If you want to fly higher, you must leave everything that weighs you down”. And you would want to soar, wouldn’t you?

I think that the best way to find and be yourself is to be creative. It takes time to be creative. You were created in the likeness and image of a Creator and in that likeness of that image, you have creativity! There’s a part of you that wants to create. So let that part be free. Let that part of you create a masterpiece on the canvas of LIFE.

So, what are you going to do today? If you’re still unsure, we got you. We’ve curated a list for your help.

One to Build Knowledge

Gardening, knitting, and reading are among the hobbies which can increase our levels of intelligence, new research has found. The team at DIYS.com asked 4,694 volunteers in July 2020 to sit an IQ test to discover the activities which can improve our cerebral intelligence, boosting our brainpower. Moreover, you can also sign up for classes for something you always wanted to learn. Maybe dancing or scriptwriting or even earning professional development certificates. With the world turning into a global village, you really have so much to choose from and a lot of them wouldn’t even cost you a penny. Maybe enroll yourself in an online course.  Also, if you’re an avid reader, books are a great way to build knowledge.

One To Evolve Your Mind-set

Whether it is taking your dog out for a walk or just sitting on your balcony quietly observing, you’re actively releasing happy hormones called endorphins.
