Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor’s ‘Abir Gulaal’ Renamed ‘Aabeer Gulaal’, Set for Global Release on August 29
According to reports from Indian media, the much-anticipated film starring Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor, originally titled ‘Abir Gulaal’, is now slated for a worldwide release on August 29 under a new name — ‘Aabeer Gulaal’.
The film’s release had been postponed earlier this year, following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam and rising political tensions between India and Pakistan, which affected many cross-border projects.
With calls for boycotts within India still ongoing, insiders suggest the makers might be following a strategy similar to the one used for ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ — releasing the film overseas while skipping theatrical release in India. However, no official confirmation has been made by the producers regarding the release plan or the date.
Fawad Khan, who has been a popular face in Bollywood, will be marking his comeback after a nine-year hiatus with this film. Directed and co-written by Aarti S. Bagdi, ‘Aabeer Gulaal’ is a romantic comedy featuring an ensemble cast including Vaani Kapoor, Riddhi Dogra, Lisa Haydon, Farida Jalal, Soni Razdan, and Parmeet Sethi. The film is co-produced by Vivek B. Agarwal, Avantika Hari, Rakesh Sippy, and Firuzi Khan.
The movie has already drawn attention amid controversy, with its songs reportedly being taken down from YouTube in response to boycott demands.
As fans await further updates, it remains to be seen how the film’s release strategy will unfold in the current politically charged atmosphere.
