Alcaraz Cruises into US Open Quarterfinals with Solid Win over Rinderknech
Carlos Alcaraz moved smoothly into the US Open quarterfinals on Monday, overcoming a determined challenge from 30-year-old Arthur Rinderknech to win 7-6 (7/3), 6-3, 6-4.
“At the start, the first set was really tight,” Alcaraz admitted. “But after that, I found my rhythm and tried to make the most of my opportunities. I played aggressive, solid tennis and kept the momentum going after the second set.”
Alcaraz fired 36 winners and committed just 11 unforced errors, maintaining his streak of not dropping a set in the tournament. With this victory, he has now reached the last eight at all four Grand Slams in a single season for the first time in his career.
“I think my style of tennis fits really well with the energy here in New York,” he added. “Whether it’s the day session or the night session, the crowd is always amazing. I love it, and that’s why I play some of my best tennis here.”
In the next round, Alcaraz will face the Czech 20th seed Jiri Lehecka on Tuesday for a spot in the semifinals.
The first set was a tense affair, with neither player facing a break point until a Rinderknech double fault handed Alcaraz the tie-break advantage. In the second set, Alcaraz earned his first break to take a 4-2 lead and rarely looked back, while Rinderknech gave his all in his first major last-16 appearance.
The third set remained competitive, but Alcaraz produced a series of brilliant shots to break for a 5-4 lead and then served out the match to love, continuing his steady march through the draw.
