Ali Rehman Khan discusses his "risky" intersex part in "Guru"

During a recent episode of Imran Ashraf’s show Mazaq Raat, actor Ali Rehman Khan discussed the complexities of his job, particularly the risks and difficulties he faced while playing Guru. The host described Ali’s job as “tricky,” meaning that, despite his established reputation in the entertainment industry, playing an intersex character could have had an adverse effect on Ali’s career.

He went on to say that although the job was fulfilling creatively, it might have put Ali’s career at jeopardy. Imran’s query mirrored whatever Ali might have been thinking at the time of making the choice. He inquired, “These thoughts must have crossed your mind, and people must have scared you as well.” Ali expressed his complete agreement, recognizing the intricacy of the position and its possible influence on his professional path.

“I see my seniors and colleagues and my fellow actors who have done good work – they’ve done very daring roles and that pleases me,” stated Ali. “I become quite joyful…The actor inside of oneself says, “I must do this now,” if they should land a role such as this. I’m capable of doing this. However, what you mentioned is true; numerous business voices declare you to be a hero.”

Asking again, “Did people stop you or say no?” Imran pressed. In his frank response, Ali acknowledged that he had received warnings from others not to accept this kind of assignment. The actor acknowledged that the voices surrounding him had an impact on him, which is a typical occurrence in a field where prejudices and preconceptions are frequently very important.

“People said no, people scared me, and obviously, you tend to listen to others,” the actress remarked. “But then I think there were also those voices that were very supportive and they told me that this is your -”

“Destiny?” Imran inquired.

“Destiny,” Ali affirmed. “This is your identification.”
