Amanda Seyfried Ditches Makeup and Botox for Role in ‘The Testament of Ann Lee’
At the Toronto International Film Festival, Amanda Seyfried, 39, opened up about the personal sacrifices she made to portray Ann Lee, the founding leader of the Shakers, in The Testament of Ann Lee. The film, which premiered last week at the Venice Film Festival, demanded Seyfried give up every ounce of makeup and even take a year-long break from Botox.
“It was a big commitment, but it was worth it,” Seyfried said. “Every day was fun. We didn’t just survive, we thrived.”
The actor admitted the Botox hiatus was challenging. “When I first got it, I thought, ‘This is amazing,’ because I frown a lot. But giving it up was necessary for the work I was doing,” she explained.
Seyfried also reflected on balancing her personal preferences with her craft. “I don’t necessarily need all that in my life. I just like it. The things I enjoy, I can sacrifice a little. That’s part of being an actor, and it’s what I love to do,” she added.
Directed and co-written by Mona Fastvold, The Testament of Ann Lee is described as “an epic fable inspired by the life of Ann Lee, the founder of the Shakers, a radical religious movement that began in the late 1700s.”
