Anisimova Bounces Back with Strong Win at US Open
New York – American tennis star Amanda Anisimova, 24, enjoyed a sweet moment of redemption at the US Open after her heavy 6-0, 6-0 defeat to the world number two in July’s Wimbledon final.
“Who would’ve thought we’d meet again so soon?” said the eighth-seeded Anisimova. “I’m super excited. It’s going to be a great match… I hope this time.”
The American started strong, breaking 18th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia’s serve three times to take the first set in under 30 minutes. She carried that momentum into the second, breaking in the opening game. Haddad Maia responded with a break of her own, but Anisimova regained control after a brief lapse from the Brazilian.
After saving two break points and holding serve, Anisimova sealed the win with one final break, showing composure under pressure.
“It was so great to be back on this court; it’s been a long time since I played here,” Anisimova said. “I love playing on big stages. I’m just really enjoying it.”
