President Vladimir Putin, who won 88% of the vote in the 2024 Russian presidential election, cautioned the West in his victory speech early on Monday that a direct confrontation between Russia and the nations that make up the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), led by the United States, would accelerate the outbreak of World War III, according to India Today.

In addition, Putin mentioned his opponent Alexei Navalny for the first time, who passed away in jail last month. He stated, “It occurs. You are powerless to change it. Life goes on.”

In addition, Putin disclosed that a few days before Navalny passed away, he had backed the notion of freeing him in exchange for another prisoner—as long as the other prisoner agreed to never go back to Russia.

In addition, presidential elections were held in Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory. Russia and Ukraine have been at war since 2022. CNN added that Ukraine retaliated by declaring the elections “null and void” due to violations of international law.

The elections that took place on March 15–17 have drawn a lot of condemnation from the West, which has labeled them as a “sham.” The White House has stated that the elections were not “free and fair.”

Putin said, “The whole world is laughing at what is happening there,” to queries about the legitimacy of the US election. What in the world is this? It’s a calamity; it’s not democracy.”

Putin won a historic majority in the elections and will hold the position for the next six years, till 2030.
