CTD Arrests Four Suspects in Badin Murder Linked to RAW, Reveals Investigation Details

Karachi — The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Friday revealed new details about the May 18 killing of Abdul Rahman, also known as Razaullah Nizamani, in Matli, Badin district.

At a press conference held at the Central Police Office, Additional IGP CTD Azad Khan Tanoli, flanked by DIG CTD Ghulam Azfar, said the murder occurred amid heightened tensions between Pakistan and India following the Marka-e-Haq operations on May 9–10. He noted that the Indian media had quickly framed the killing as part of propaganda, portraying it as a strike against an “Indian enemy” in Pakistan.

Tanoli said that investigations traced the mastermind of the murder plot to a RAW officer, Sanjay Sanjeev Kumar, currently operating from a Gulf country. The prime suspect, Salman Virk from Sheikhupura, was hired by RAW, fled abroad after the killing, and later moved to Nepal.

Through technical surveillance, the CTD arrested four suspects—Umair Asghar, Sajjad, Obaid, and Shakeel—on July 8. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to working for RAW’s local network, admitted connections with a banned militant group, and revealed plans for further terrorist attacks in Karachi.

Two pistols, a motorcycle, and mobile phones used in the killing were also recovered.

“RAW spent huge sums of money to execute this killing. The handler, Sanjay Kumar, remained in constant contact with the suspects during the operation,” Tanoli said. He added that the suspects had received funding through banking channels and other methods from RAW, which often uses criminal and militant groups to carry out operations in Pakistan.

Investigators have also uncovered links between RAW and a separatist organization in Sindh, with further arrests expected.
