Balochistan’s Peoples Train Set to Roll Out, Punjab’s Orange Line Goes Solar
QUETTA/LAHORE – Big moves are underway in Pakistan’s rail sector as the Balochistan government teams up with Pakistan Railways to launch a new passenger train service from Saryab to Kuchlak, while Punjab shifts gears toward solar power for its urban transit system.
During a high-level meeting, officials confirmed that consultations on the proposed railway route in Balochistan have been completed. The upcoming “People’s Train Service” will be a joint venture between the provincial government and Pakistan Railways.
Instead of importing, Balochistan has decided to acquire locomotives and coaches directly from Pakistan Railways. Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi assured full support, saying engines, coaches, and essential infrastructure will be delivered within six months. He also confirmed that Pakistan Railways will upgrade the existing railway lines to accommodate the new service.
Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti emphasized that the new train service is aimed at providing modern and comfortable transport for locals. “I’m personally monitoring each phase, and no delays will be tolerated,” he declared.
Punjab’s Orange Line to Tap Solar Power
In a separate development, Punjab has announced a green energy initiative for its flagship Orange Line train project. The provincial government has decided to install a 1.6 megawatt solar power plant that will supply electricity to all Orange Line stations and facilities.
According to project sources, the solar plant will power everything from electric stairs to station operations — a move expected to significantly cut operational costs and reduce the financial burden on the government.
These back-to-back rail developments mark a shift towards modernization and sustainability in Pakistan’s public transport infrastructure.
