Praters Kick Leads Bills Comeback

Prater’s Last-Second Kick Caps Bills’ Stunning Comeback Over Ravens

Buffalo — Matt Prater, 41, made a dramatic entrance this week and delivered in the biggest way, nailing a game-winning field goal as time expired to complete an unforgettable comeback against the Baltimore Ravens.

Josh Allen, the reigning NFL MVP, threw for two touchdowns, ran for two more, and helped the Bills rack up 16 points in the final four minutes, stunning 2023 MVP Lamar Jackson and the Ravens, who had seemed poised to avenge last year’s playoff heartbreak.

“There’s just no quit in this team,” Allen said, praising Prater, who had been signed just days earlier as insurance while Tyler Bass recovered from injury.

“It wasn’t me, it was everybody,” said Prater of the victory. “I was just fortunate to have an opportunity to be in that situation to kick it.”

Jackson threw for 209 yards with two passing touchdowns and added a rushing TD, while Derrick Henry ran for 169 yards and two scores. Zay Flowers also found the end zone, but it wasn’t enough.

Allen’s 10-yard touchdown pass to Keon Coleman with 3:56 left cut the deficit to 40-32. Then, Ed Oliver forced a fumble from Henry, setting up Allen’s one-yard touchdown run. After a failed two-point conversion and a stop on Baltimore’s next drive, Allen led a nine-play, 66-yard march to set up Prater’s decisive kick.

The game had its tense moments off the field, too, when a Bills fan slapped Ravens’ DeAndre Hopkins during a touchdown celebration, prompting Jackson to intervene and push the fan back into his seat.

Stafford Joins 60,000 Passing Yards Club in Rams Win

Los Angeles — Matthew Stafford became only the 10th quarterback in NFL history to surpass 60,000 career passing yards in the Rams’ 14-9 victory over the Houston Texans.

Stafford, in his 17th season, threw for 245 yards and a touchdown, reaching the milestone with a six-yard completion to Puka Nacua in the fourth quarter.

“It’s an amazing thing and sure as hell glad that we did it, getting a win, too,” Stafford said.

Rodgers’ Four Touchdowns Lead Steelers Past Jets

Pittsburgh — Aaron Rodgers made a triumphant debut for the Steelers, throwing four touchdown passes in a 34-32 win over the New York Jets.

The 41-year-old veteran, opening his 21st NFL season, completed 22 of 30 passes for 244 yards with no interceptions against the team he spent the past two seasons with, after 18 years in Green Bay.

“I was happy to beat everybody associated with the Jets,” Rodgers said, reflecting on his long history with the franchise.

Green Bay — Micah Parsons, recently traded from Dallas, made an immediate impact in the Packers’ 27-13 win over NFC North rivals Detroit, recording one of four sacks on Jared Goff. Parsons said he was relieved to leave a “super toxic” situation in Dallas, where contract negotiations had broken down.
