BMW M5 CS : The malevolent Bavarian but on a diet

On Tuesday BMW launched The M5 CS, which is the faster variant of an already faster M5 competition. In other words, the new M5 CS is the most powerful BMW to ever come out of Munich.

What Makes It Special

To create such a monster; BMW took the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 from the M5 competition and give it 10 HP more. Putting a total output of 627 HP and a healthy 553 lb-ft of torque. But it’s much more than that. BMW claims a 0-62 mph time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 190 mph.

power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and a trick AWD system with three modes: 4WD, 4WD Sport, and 2WD.
with all that available over a rev range that’s precisely 90 rpm wider (1,800 to 5,950 rpm).

Following in the footsteps of Christian Bale from The Machinist, The M5 went on a strict diet to play the role of “CS”.

Thanks to a carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) diet, the M5 CS weighs up to 230 pounds less than M5 Competition.

To achieve that weight reduction; BMW molds the M5 CS’s hood, front splitter, rear diffuser, rear spoiler, and roof from CFRP. The hood itself features a power dome and vents, and in combination with the already aggressive front bumper, it gives the CS even more attitude than the “standard” M5. And there is also less sound-deadening material throughout. The M5 CS sports  20-inch M forged wheels in Y-spoke design and the wheels are shod into Pirelli P Zero Corsa track tires

Here comes the nerdy bit so bear with me: The CS gets 10-percent stiffer springs, 0.2-inch drop in ride height, bespoke engine mounts, stiffer toe-link ball-joint mounts, a stiffer rear sway bar, and more negative camber upfront.

With that out of the way let’s jump to the inside of the car.

the most notable change would probably be found in the back seats; where the regular three-person bench has been replaced by two bucket seats. Making the BMW M5 CS a four-door four-seater super sedan.

The front row gets new chairs as well as some aggressively-bolstered carbon buckets that are heated, illuminated, and adjustable. Also, the headrests on all 4 seats are perforated so that an outline of the Nürburgring is visible.

An Alcantara steering wheel with 12 o’clock marked in red along with an Alcantara headliner, red stitching, and red CS logos finish off the enhanced M5’s interior.

THE PRICING

Before I forget; the new CS features an all-new track mode, which turns off all driver aids, blacks out the infotainment display, and turns off the speakers. Thus the driver can concentrate on making that Nürburgring lap records. How cool is that?

However, all that does not come cheap. with a limited run, subsequently, The pricing of M5 CS is around $142,995. yes! a serious blow to the pocket.
