Kriti Sanon criticizes directors for not allocating enough money to develop movies on women

Lack of budget for women-centric films

Kriti Sanon recently discussed how budgets for films starring women are handled differently than those for films starring men.

The Bollywood actress revealed to Film Companion that movies with male leads typically have larger-than-life budgets and do well financially.

The 33-year-old actress stated, “I feel like someone needs to really take the front and the risk on positioning a female-led film on that scale.”

Kriti, who was just awarded a prestigious National Award for her outstanding performance in Mimi, disclosed that producers were afraid to spend the same capital on female-driven films.

“We get scared of what it’s gonna earn or not earn, and we sort of limit the positioning and aspirational value of it and maybe that’s why it doesn’t end up earning that kind of money,” she said.

In terms of her career, Kriti will next be seen in an untitled romantic comedy film with Shahid Kapoor for the first time.

The film, which was directed by Amit Joshi, will open in theaters on February 9, 2024.
