Balochistan University Professor Admits Links to Banned Militant Group

QUETTA – A video confession of Dr. Usman Qazi, a professor at Balochistan University of Information Technology and Management Sciences (BUITEMS), has surfaced online, in which he admitted to having ties with the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and assisting their operations.

In the statement, Dr. Usman revealed, “Both my wife and I are government employees. I completed my PhD at Peshawar University and was serving as a Grade-18 lecturer at BUITEMS. During an academic visit from Peshawar to Quaid-e-Azam University, I met three friends linked to the BLA. Later, two of them were killed.”

He said he was later approached by Dr. Hebtan, also known as Kalak, who inducted him into the BLA.

Dr. Usman added that he was introduced to Bashir Zeb and communicated with him via Telegram. Within the organization, he was given the alias ‘Amir’ and carried out three tasks on behalf of the BLA.

Detailing his involvement, he admitted:

Providing medical assistance to Regional Commander Sher Dil.

Sheltering two militants at his residence in November, one of whom later carried out a suicide attack at Quetta Railway Station.

Supplying a pistol to a woman for use in targeted killings.

Hosting Nauman, also known as Firq, for eight days before handing him over to another BLA commander, who tasked him with carrying out a suicide attack on any event on August 14.

The US has designated the BLA and the Majeed Brigade as terrorist organizations.
