Bumrah, in an interview with The Indian Express, mentioned that he led India on a couple of instances and hilariously picked himself when asked about his favourite skipper.
“My favourite captain is me because I have captained a few games. There are great captains, but I will take my name. I am my favourite captain,” said Bumrah.
After some wit, Bumrah hailed Rohit Sharma’s leadership, citing the way he captained youngsters-laden India in the five-match Test series against England.
“In the recent England series, when the youngsters came, Rohit made the atmosphere very comfortable,” Bumrah said.
“He took extra effort; he will take them out; he will talk to them about the game; he will try and push them to take the responsibility, as the youngsters should think all are equally important; there is no senior or junior.
“A captain needs to have empathy towards bowlers and Rohit Sharma is one of the few captains who has empathy for bowlers.
“Playing in the IPL as well, I even used to go and tell Rohit that ‘You set the field, I am going to bowl this ball. You set the field, and I trust you in whatever you feel is right. You set the field’,” Bumrah concluded.
Jasprit Bumrah, who also served as the vice-captain, was instrumental in India’s unbeaten title victory in the T20 World Cup 2024.
He was the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 15 wickets at an average of 8.26, which also bagged him the Player of the Tournament award.
