Leading government officials, politicians, businesspeople, educators, and journalists flocked to Karachi on Saturday to celebrate Turkish Breakfast Day, drawn by the taste and diversity of traditional Turkish cuisines.
A ceremony at the Turkish Consulate featured a range of feasts as part of an initiative to popularize the beloved Turkish breakfast custom around the world.
The custom is also a part of the annual World Breakfast Day, which falls on the first Sunday in June and has been recognized by UNESCO.
Sindh’s chief minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, was the main guest of the occasion.
Federal Minister Makhdoom Mehboob Zaman, Prime Minister Feroze Alam Shah’s advisor, Chairman of the Karachi Port Trust Syed Syedain Raza, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission Sindh Dr. Tariq Rafi, Chairman of the Trade Development Authority Pakistan Zubair Motiwala, and Coordinator of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) Karachi Halil Ibrahim Basaran were among the other attendees.
In addition to Turkish tea being served to guests, the event included a variety of traditional Turkish dishes like Su Boregi (pastry with feta cheese filling), Sucuklu Yumurta (eggs and sausage), salami, Menemen (scrambled eggs with cottage cheese), Simit (sesame bread rings), and Pogaca (buns stuffed with cottage cheese).
Speaking at the event, Turkish Consul General Cemal Sangu explained that the purpose of the yearly celebration is to foster mutual understanding between the citizens of the two friendly nations and to introduce Pakistanis to the rich tapestry of Turkish culture and cuisine.
He continued by saying that these occasions stand as emblems of the two nations’ fraternity and solidarity.
He said, “It expresses our love and feelings for you.”
