Owner of tech behemoths Tesla, SpaceX, and X, Elon Musk, is encouraging Americans to procreate like bunnies. Considering his own track record as a father, it is hard to criticize him for being serious in his advice to have as many children as possible.
Elon Musk is the father of eleven children by three separate women, two of whom he fathered with Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis. I should also mention that he had children with Zilis in a very unusual and non-physical manner.
Zilis previously disclosed that the twins were conceived via in vitro fertilization (IVF) and that she and Musk never had a sexual relationship. Musk told her that he was concerned about the falling birth rate and that he wanted bright people to have children.
The data indicates that there are other reasons why people choose not to have children than simple disinterest, despite Musk’s outrage directed at those who have made up their minds to do so and his suggestion to deny them the ability to vote.
In a 2021 Pew Research Center study, 56% of American adults without children between the ages of 18 and 49 stated that they don’t have children because “they just don’t want to,” while 43% stated that they have children for “some other reason.”
29% of respondents who said they had “some other reason” gave their age, 23% gave medical reasons, and 14% gave financial reasons.
It’s possible that the tech millionaire is completely unaware of how much it now costs the average American to raise a child to the age of eighteen, approaching $250,000, not including college expenses.
Considering his estimated net worth of $191 billion, Musk finds it easy to raise even an army of kids.
Demographers, on the other hand, disagree with Musk’s apocalyptic prediction that the US population would abruptly decline.
