A filmmaker who spent 30 days only eating McDonald's passes away

After a quiet fight with cancer, Morgan Spurlock, the Oscar-nominated director best known for the ground-breaking documentary “Super Size Me,” passed suddenly at the age of 53.

Spurlock passed away quietly in New York, surrounded by loved ones, according to a family statement that Deadline Hollywood obtained. Cancer problems were given as the reason for the death.

In expressing the family’s sorrow, Craig Spurlock, the brother of the late Morgan Spurlock, emphasized Morgan’s creative accomplishments and called him a “true creative genius.”

Spurlock became well-known for his documentary Super Size Me, in which he fast-food-only diet for thirty days to record the health effects of the diet.

Spurlock’s career suffered obstacles amid the MeToo movement in 2017 following a confession of sexual misconduct, but the film’s success catapulted him into the ranks elite factual filmmakers.

In spite of this, his work explored a variety of societal topics in “Mansome” and “The Greatest Movie Ever Sold,” demonstrating his versatility.

The family has suggested donations to Spurlock’s name at the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in New York City, and plans for a memorial service will be made public.
