A lady who was involved in a hit-and-run incident with a highway police officer in January was arrested after a viral video of the incident went viral on social media, and on Thursday the court remanded her to jail.
After hitting the highway police officer, the accused, Farah, managed to escape and was only captured three and a half months later after the footage went viral on social media. On January 2, 2024, a case was filed against her at the Naseerabad police station. The complaint was made by Patrolling Officer Mohammad Sabir, and the allegations included interfering with government affairs, resisting, and injuring government personnel.
The police brought the accused before Civil Judge Dr. Mumtaz Hanjra today and asked for a five-day physical remand so that they could conduct more investigation.
The event, which involved a high-speed getaway on the road, was reported to the court on January 1. The defense attorney said that physical remand of the accused was unlawful because no one was hurt and that the police had been idle for 113 days before to the video becoming viral. The attorney decided that the matter might be dismissed, arguing that the physical remand should be turned down.
The court recommended at the hearing that the investigating officer question people in front of female employees and correctional officials. The investigating officer said that the accused deliberately targeted the officer with her car, indicating an intent to kill, in response to the court’s questioning of the applicability of Section 324 with regard to murder accusations.
The prosecution contended that physical remand was required in order to retrieve car records and perform a voice test, characterizing the act as a serious criminal that amounted to murder.
However, the accused, Farah, was placed on a 14-day judicial detention and transported to Adiala Jail after the court denied the police’s plea for physical remand. The accused entered the courtroom with a significant police presence.
