Rapper Sean Kingston Arrested in $1 Million fraud case in Florida

On Sunday, May 29, 2023, 34-year-old Jamaican-American rapper Sean Kingston—real name Kisean Anderson—was scheduled to appear in court at Broward County Jail. Along with his mother, Janice Turner, 61, he is accused of fraud totaling more than $1 million.

On May 23, Turner was taken into custody following a SWAT team raid on Kingston’s estate close to Fort Lauderdale. On the same day, Kingston was taken into custody at the military installation in California known as Fort Irwin, where he was performing. Both are charged with taking part in an “organized scheme to defraud,” according to booking records from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. Grand theft, identity theft, and related offences are additional charges.

According to arrest warrants, Kingston and Turner are accused of stealing almost $500,000 in jewellery, more than $200,000 from Bank of America, a nearly $160,000 Cadillac Escalade, more than $100,000 from First Republic Bank, and $86,000 from a manufacturer of custom beds.

The bond amount for Kingston is $100,000. Kingston wrote on Instagram before he was arrested, writing, “People love negative energy! Both my mother and I are doing well! My attorneys are currently taking care of everything.”

According to court documents, Kingston was previously placed on probation for dealing in stolen property. In addition, he is being sued for allegedly defrauding a business by agreeing to a contract for a $150,000 entertainment system and offering Justin Bieber promotional appearances in exchange for a smaller down payment.

Robert Rosenblatt, Kingston’s lawyer, expressed optimism that the charges would be successfully resolved. On Monday, May 30, 2023, Kingston and Turner were both supposed to appear in court.
