Chris Martin Reflects on Accidental Celebrity Scandal During Coldplay Tour in Hull

Hull, England – During Coldplay’s latest stop on their Music of the Spheres tour, lead singer Chris Martin opened up about last month’s unexpected controversy, when a private moment between two executives went viral worldwide.

The incident occurred at the Gillette Stadium in Boston, Massachusetts, when New York-based DataOps company Astronomer’s then CEO Andy Byron and Chief People Officer Kristin Cabot were caught in a close embrace on the stadium’s kiss-cam. A concertgoer’s video quickly spread online, revealing the scandalous moment to millions.

Speaking to fans in Hull, Martin reflected on the mishap with characteristic humor. “We’ve been doing [the Jumbotron] a long time, and it is only recently that it became a …” he paused, then added, “Yeah. Life throws you lemons and you’ve got to make lemonade.”

He reassured the crowd that the band would continue the interactive Jumbotron tradition: “So, we are going to keep doing it because we are going to meet some of you.”

The July 16 incident instantly sparked a media frenzy. Byron and Cabot, both reportedly married to other partners at the time, appeared visibly embarrassed as Byron ducked behind a barrier and Cabot covered her face. Social media users quickly identified the executives, and Astronomer later confirmed their identities.

Following the controversy, both Byron and Cabot resigned from their roles at Astronomer.
