COAS Asim Munir Reaffirms Commitment to Pakistan, Praises PM Sharif During Brussels Visit
BRUSSELS — Pakistan Army Chief, General Asim Munir has strongly rejected claims questioning his role, saying such narratives come from opponents of both the government and state institutions.
“God has made me the protector of this country. Beyond this responsibility, I have no desire for any other position,” General Munir told an audience in Brussels.
During his address, he highlighted Pakistan’s long-standing diplomatic balancing act between China and the United States, stressing that Islamabad would not sacrifice one ally for another.
The Army Chief also praised US President Donald Trump’s pursuit of peace, calling it genuine. He revealed that Pakistan was the first country to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, a move that has since been followed by other nations.
General Munir issued stern warnings against India and Afghanistan, cautioning against proxy actions that could destabilize Pakistan. “We must avenge the blood of every Pakistani,” he said.
Overseas Pakistanis in Brussels gave General Munir a hero’s welcome, hailing him as a “victor of war.” Defying protocol, he spent hours personally greeting expatriates who had traveled long distances to meet him. “How can I break the hearts of those who came from afar?” he remarked, ensuring he shook hands with every attendee.
In his speech, General Munir also commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his cabinet for their tireless efforts, noting that they worked “18 hours a day” during the war and describing their dedication as “commendable.”
