Misbah-ul-Haq, the head coach and former captain of Pakistan, bemoaned how “unpleasant” it is to change the captain of the national team and how it impacts the players.
In advance of the Green Shirts’ five-match Twenty20 International Series against New Zealand, which is scheduled to begin on April 18, Misbah made these remarks following the reinstatement of Babar Azam as white-ball captain by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), replacing pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi.
In a statement, the board stated that the decision to switch captains was a “strategic move” meant to ensure player health and optimal performance, and that it demonstrated PCB’s determination to protect players’ careers, particularly those of the fast bowlers.
Misbah expressed his thoughts on the captaincy change to reporters in Lahore, stating that the previous method of changing the captain was incorrect and remains incorrect.
“All of our guys are elite. “We wish the team continued success and think Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah are stars,” the 49-year-old remarked.
In addition, he offered his opinion on the hiring of coaches, stating that the cricket board ought to examine the team’s needs before selecting a coach, regardless of their nationality.
“[PCB] should see which coach can prove to be better and can manage the team well,” Misbah stated.
The former athlete stated that it would be preferable if local and international coaches collaborated, adding that it would aid in the local coaches’ growth and allow the foreign coaches to gain knowledge from the locals.
