A deceased police policeman was shot in Lahore

On Thursday, a police constable working in the judicial wing of Lahore was shot and killed in the Gwalmandi neighborhood.

The cop, Ghulam Rasool, was shot in the chest, according to police, and was pronounced dead when he arrived at the emergency room of Mayo Hospital.

After the event, the local police launched an operation in the neighborhood.

This is the third assault on law enforcement officers in the provincial capital, and as of yet, no organization has acknowledged accountability. But preliminary findings indicate that a terrorist group that is outlawed may have been responsible for the attacks.

Similar wave of targeted assaults was seen in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) last year. Punjab is witnessing a replication of the same pattern.

According to a recent NACTA study, more than a dozen security officers lost their lives as a consequence of over 100 targeted attacks on police, which included the siege of the Bannu CTD complex and an attack in DI Khan. The TTP claimed credit for the strikes.

According to the research, there was just one attack on a law enforcement agency in Punjab last year, but there were 624 in K-P. There has been a documented increase in targeted assaults since 2022, particularly against police officers in Punjab.

In 2024, there have been over a dozen recorded attacks against law enforcement, particularly on border police installations.
