60-year-old resident Waseemur Rehman passed away early on Monday at a private hospital on Stadium Road in Karachi. His death came after a terrifying encounter with bandits on Chand Raat near Gulshan-e-Maymar, which prompted a six-day fight for his life.
Waseem was heading home to Gulshan-e-Maymar Sector Y-3 late on Chand Raat with his wife in tow after finishing his Eid shopping. Their car was seized by robbers in an area under the control of the Site Superhighway Industrial Area Police Station, in a terrifying turn of events.
Waseem didn’t stop driving and wouldn’t stop, so the attackers started shooting. Sadly, he had a serious gunshot wound to the back.
Waseem was quickly taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital with the help of his wife, and then he was moved to a private hospital near the stadium. He passed away from his wounds in the wee hours of Monday, even though he was in intensive care for six days.
Following Asr prayers, he will be put to rest at a nearby graveyard at Jamia Masjid Ammar bin Yasir in Gulshan-e-Maymar Sector Y-3.
With this most recent death, the number of people killed by bandit gunfire in the city has risen to 62 so far this year.
