DHA Karachi Assault Case Closed After Victim Withdraws Complaint
KARACHI — The high-profile DHA assault case involving businessman Salman Farooqi has been officially closed after the complainant withdrew all charges, according to a final report submitted by Gizri police to the City Court of Karachi on Saturday.
The case gained national attention after a viral video showed Farooqi allegedly assaulting a young motorcyclist in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area of Karachi in the presence of the victim’s sister. The footage sparked widespread public outrage and calls for strict legal action.
During the court proceedings, police presented a final report under the “C-Class” category, which is used when a case is filed but the complainant chooses not to pursue it further. The report noted that the complainant had submitted a written statement confirming that the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding and that Salman Farooqi had not misbehaved with him or his sister.
Furthermore, the complainant provided an affidavit expressing his decision to end all legal proceedings. Citing this affidavit, police requested the dismissal of all charges, including allegations of life threats.
The court accepted the final police report and added it to the case record before adjourning the hearing.
Initially, the case had been registered following the viral circulation of the assault video, which led to significant public pressure for accountability. However, with the withdrawal of the complaint, the legal process has now concluded.
