Dhabeji Power Outage Hits Karachi Water Supply Again

Power Outage at Dhabeji Pumping Station Disrupts Water Supply in Karachi

A major power breakdown struck the Dhabeji Pumping Station shortly after midnight, severely disrupting the water supply across Karachi.

According to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), the outage occurred at approximately 12:20 AM and affected Line No. 5 at two critical points. The power failure, caused by a disruption in K-Electric’s supply, halted pumping operations at the station.

Repair and restoration work was launched immediately by KWSC officials, with completion expected within the next 36 hours. However, the city is expected to face a water shortfall of nearly 100 million gallons during this period.

Efforts are ongoing to reduce the impact and restore water supply to affected areas as swiftly as possible, according to a KWSC spokesperson.

This is not the first time the Dhabeji Pumping Station has experienced such an incident. Just last month, a similar K-Electric outage late Friday night brought operations at both the K-II and K-III pump houses to a standstill.

Two major pumps at the K-III facility remained non-operational for nearly 38 hours, causing a massive shortfall of 171 million gallons. Several localities, including Nazimabad, New Karachi, Landhi, and Korangi, suffered from acute water shortages during that episode.

Authorities have once again called on K-Electric to ensure uninterrupted power supply to critical water infrastructure to avoid further disruptions in the city’s water distribution network.
