Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh and the makers of the movie Sardaar Ji 3 are facing boycott calls because they cast Pakistani actor Hania Aamir in the film.
In response, the film’s producer, Gunbir Singh Sidhu, defended the decision. He said, “The movie was filmed before the recent conflict with Pakistan.” He also explained that out of respect for Indian public feelings, the movie will not be released in India.
For those who don’t know, Sardaar Ji 3 is directed by Amar Hundal and stars Hania Aamir, Diljit Dosanjh, Neeru Bajwa, and Gulshan Grover. It will release in cinemas around the world (except India) on June 27. This is Hania Aamir’s first role in an Indian movie.
Earlier, news reports were saying Hania had been removed from the film after the Film Federation of Western India Cinema (FWIC) brought back the ban on Pakistani artists. This decision came after a terror attack in Pahalgam in April that killed at least 26 people, increasing tensions between India and Pakistan.
At first, the movie team didn’t say anything. But when Hania was missing from the posters and teaser, people began to guess she had been cut. However, the official trailer, released on Sunday, clearly shows that Hania Aamir is still in the movie.
