Dodgers Beat Rockies Behind Sheehan’s Strong Outing, Extend Division Lead

LOS ANGELES – Emmet Sheehan continued the Dodgers’ recent trend of dominant pitching, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning on Tuesday night. He became the third Los Angeles starter in four games to carry a no-hit bid past five innings, following Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Tyler Glasnow.

The Dodgers’ offense backed him up with power, as Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, and Teoscar Hernández all went deep in an 8-1 win over the Colorado Rockies. The victory moved Los Angeles (81-64) two games ahead of the San Diego Padres in the National League West.

Sheehan (6-3) matched his career high with seven innings, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out eight. His no-hit bid ended in the sixth when Kyle Karros, son of former Dodgers slugger Eric Karros, singled to left. Karros later scored on a Tyler Freeman single, accounting for Colorado’s only run.

The Rockies (40-105) continued their tough season, extending their franchise record for most losses. Hunter Goodman provided their lone highlight with his 30th home run of the year. Starter Germán Márquez (3-13) surrendered five runs over five innings.

Los Angeles jumped ahead early. Will Smith, returning from a hand injury, doubled in the second inning and scored on a wild pitch. Betts followed with a two-run homer in the third, his 17th of the season, and Hernández added a solo shot in the fourth. Shohei Ohtani chipped in an RBI single, while Freeman and Hernández added late home runs in the eighth to seal the win.

The Dodgers improved to 10-2 against Colorado this season. The two teams will wrap up their series on Wednesday.
