Eagles Hit by Multiple Injuries Ahead of Tampa Bay Clash

Philadelphia – The Eagles are dealing with a significant injury setback ahead of their Sunday matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. NFL Network reported that defensive end Smith has aggravated a triceps injury that will require offseason surgery.

Cornerback Jakorian Bennett and rookie wide receiver Darius Cooper were also placed on injured reserve Wednesday, meaning all three players will miss at least the next four games.

Smith, 24, has tallied 10 tackles and a forced fumble in three games this season but has yet to record a sack after posting 6.5 during the 2024 regular season and four more in the playoffs. Over his 36-game career since being selected 30th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Georgia, Smith has amassed 70 tackles and 7.5 sacks.

Bennett, 25, has six tackles in three games since joining the Eagles in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders during training camp. He is currently sidelined with an undisclosed injury. Rookie wide receiver Darius Cooper, 23, is recovering from a shoulder injury and has yet to record a catch this season.

Philadelphia enters the game with a 3-0 record but only three team sacks on the season, highlighting the impact of Smith’s absence.

In a roster move, the Eagles also added linebacker Lance Dixon, defensive back Eli Ricks, and wide receiver Quez Watkins to the practice squad on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, in European football, Marseille pulled off a rare 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1. Defender Nayef Aguerd, who recently joined from West Ham United, scored just five minutes into the game at the Velodrome. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier was unable to stop a deflected cross from Mason Greenwood, allowing Aguerd to head the ball into the net.

“We are not used to losing games,” admitted PSG coach Luis Enrique, whose team went undefeated in Ligue 1 until the end of last season.
