ECP Confirms Disqualification of PTI Leaders Still in Effect
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has said that the disqualifications of Senator Ejaz Chaudhry, MNA Ahmed Chattha, and Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader Malik Ahmed Khan Bhachar are still valid.
These leaders were found guilty by an anti-terrorism court, and the court’s decision has not been changed.
The ECP also talked about the case of Abdul Latif Chitrali. His case is different because he did not ask the Islamabad High Court to cancel his sentence. However, some of the other people in the same May 9 case did go to court. The court later canceled their convictions and ordered their release.
Even though Chitrali did not appeal, the ECP said the court’s decision might still affect him.
Because of this, the ECP has sent a notice to Chitrali asking him to appear and help decide if the High Court’s ruling can be applied to him too.
