Ed Sheeran Rejects Space Concert Offer

Ed Sheeran Turns Down ‘First Gig in Space’ Offer, Says It’s Too Risky

Ed Sheeran has revealed he once had the chance to perform the world’s first concert in space—but decided to say no.

Speaking on his latest radio appearance, the 34-year-old singer, who just released his eighth studio album Play, admitted the offer sounded groundbreaking but also frightening.

“It terrifies me,” Sheeran confessed, adding that he wants space travel to become routine before he considers it. “I want to go to space when it’s like flying to France, and 40,000 people have done it. I don’t want to be a guinea pig for something that’s still dangerous.”

The Grammy winner stressed that no record or achievement would be worth the risk. “I’m not going to risk that for a Guinness World Record or whatever. I’m not going to risk my kids not having a dad,” he said, referring to his two daughters, Lyra, 5, and Jupiter, 3, whom he shares with wife Cherry Seaborn.

Instead, Sheeran said he has plenty of places on Earth left to explore. “I’ve never been to Greenland—I’d love to go to Greenland. There are places on this planet I’d far rather visit than space,” he concluded.
