PPP may oppose and vote for the PML-N's nominee for prime minister: Kundi

The head of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Faisal Karim Kundi, has suggested that his party can sit on the opposition benches and support the prime ministerial candidate of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

PPP central secretary information stated in an interview with Geo News on Monday that if Bilawal is not elected prime minister, PPP should, in his opinion, take a seat on the opposition benches.

He went on to say that they might possibly decide to support the PML-N nominee and take seats in the opposition.

Regarding the PPP and PML-N meeting from the previous day, Kundi stated that the issues raised there would be presented to the party’s Central Executive Committee when it convenes today.

The PPP leader declared, “It will not be able to work properly if PDM part two comes [to power].” He also mentioned that the lack of a majority will provide several challenges for the new administration.

With 54 members in the National Assembly, the PPP is well-positioned to be influential because whoever it endorses would be able to win the PM House.

Additionally, the party has secured a majority in the assemblies of Sindh and Balochistan. In Sindh, a government can be formed without the backing of any other party, however in Balochistan, a government needs to be formed with a partner.

In response to a query regarding the nominee for the position of Sindh chief minister, Kundi stated that the PPP’s Central Executive Committee would make that decision today.

Kundi added that the PPP will approach the PML-N for cooperation in building the government in Punjab, and that it would do the same in Balochistan.

With 11 seats, the PPP has become the largest party in Balochistan; JUI-F and PML-N are in second place with 10 seats apiece.

But after the general elections on February 8, PML-N took the lead with 138 seats in the Punjab Assembly, followed by independents supported by the PTI with 116 seats. The independent candidates, who ran on their own without the support of any party, came in at number 22, PPP at number 10, PML-Q at number 7, IPP, TLP, and PML-Z with one seat each.
