Ellen DeGeneres issues apology, vows ‘new chapter’ after an investigation into bullying, racism.
The famous talk show host, Ellen DeGeneres opened the new season of her popular television talk show by apologizing to staff after reports of a toxic work environment on her set and saying changes had been made to start “a new chapter.”
Three top producers left The Ellen DeGeneres Show, producer Warner Bros said in August, after an internal investigation into complaints of bullying, racism, and sexual misconduct against them.
“I learned that things happen here that never should have happened,” DeGeneres, 62, said in the opening monologue for the premiere of her show’s 18th season.
“I take that very seriously and I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected.”
“We have made the necessary changes and today we are starting a new chapter,” she added.
Lets take a look back at Ellen’s Controversy
In April, a Twitter thread asking for stories about DeGeneres being “one of the meanest people alive” was widely shared, garnering more than 2,000 replies of people describing uncomfortable or off-putting experiences with the host.
Right now we all need a little kindness. You know, like Ellen Degeneres always talks about! 😊❤️
She’s also notoriously one of the meanest people alive

Crew members for “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” also spoke out this month, saying they had not received any communication from DeGeneres or show executives about their pay or working hours during the coronavirus pandemic.
With accusations of unkind or inconsiderate behavior swirling around the talk-show host, it can be hard to keep track of all the controversy. Below, we broke down all the backlash DeGeneres has received this year.
I worked @RealFoodDaily, served her & Porsha at brunch. She wrote a letter to the owner & complained about my chipped nail polish (not that it was on her plate but just that it was on my hand). I had worked till closing the night before & this was next morn, almost got me fired.

When I was 15 @TheEllenShow was doing a contest of fans making a bust of her and sending it to her. I worked so hard on this and even wrote her a letter. Weeks later she used it as a prop in a game and gave it away to a random person with $500 attached to the bottom. pic.twitter.com/tcXg2ILcLc

Nikkietutorial on The Ellen DeGeneres Show
Earlier this year, the famous MUA Nikkietutorials aka Nikkie de Jager was invited on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and it also stirred up the controversy when nikkie gave an interview and some shocking revelations came forth.
“Maybe I’m being naive, but I expected them to welcome me with confetti: Welcome to ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’!” she said in the interview seen by Pop Crave. “But instead I got greeted by an angry intern, who was a bit overworked. I expected a Disney show, but I got a ‘Teletubbies’ after dark.”
According to de Jager, she didn’t receive the same VIP treatment as other celebrity guests on the show, despite having millions of views on her YouTube videos.
“Every guest at Ellen had a private toilet, but I didn’t,” she said, referring to a bathroom. “I couldn’t even use the closest toilet to me because it was reserved for the Jonas brothers.”
Ellen’s New chapter
DeGeneres, who is gay, joked that she was a good actress because she has played straight women. “But I don’t think that I’m that good that I could come out here every day for 17 years and fool you,” she said of her reputation for kindness.
“I am that person that you see on TV,” she said. “I am also a lot of other things. Sometimes I get sad, I get mad, I get anxious, I get frustrated, I get impatient. And I am working on all of that. I am a work in progress.”
