Arooj Aftab will appear at Glastonbury 2024 with SZA

This June, Glastonbury Festival in London will feature the Grammy-winning vocalist Arooj Aftab, who was born in Pakistan and currently resides in Brooklyn. Aftab, who is renowned for her dreamy vocals and blend of modern and classical music, informed her admirers of the joyful news on Instagram.

“UK, get planning! The 39-year-old excitedly said on Instagram, “We are back at Glastonbury, June 2024,” attaching a banner with her image for the occasion. In the same post, Aftab also revealed the much-awaited lineup, which featured appearances by both established and up-and-coming performers including LCD Soundsystem, PJ Harvey, and Cyndi Lauper.

Organizers announced on Thursday that Dua Lipa and SZA, along with rock group Coldplay, will occupy two of the three headlining spots at the inaugural Glastonbury Festival in June. This will be the first time that female performers have held such positions.

Shania Twain, a country pop singer, will play the “legend” slot on Sunday afternoon. Soon after the release of her third album, Radical Optimism, British-Albanian singer Dua Lipa, whose successes include New Rules and One Kiss, will make her Pyramid Stage debut.

On the other side, Coldplay are veterans of Worthy Farm. They are set to headline for a record-breaking sixth time. The biggest surprise in the lineup is US R&B singer SZA. The 34-year-old’s hit song Kill Bill has been in the British charts for months, and his critically praised album SOS was awarded a Grammy last month.

When tickets went on sale in November, the festival sold out in less than an hour, although the previous year’s all-male top line-up drew criticism.

Aftab was nominated for two Grammy Awards earlier this year, but she didn’t win any of them. As a result, she lost out on double Grammy glory. The vocalist from Mohabbat received nominations for Best Jazz Alternate Album and Global Music Performance.

Love in Exile by Aftab was nominated for Best Jazz Alternate Album, and Shadow Forces was nominated for new recordings of vocal or instrumental world music. It is important to note that in 2022, Aftab became the first Pakistani musician to receive the greatest accolades in the music industry.
