With the release of its viewership data for the second half of 2023, Netflix revealed 90 billion hours of streaming content.
The Daily Mail claims that although classic shows like Gilmore Girls, Grey’s Anatomy, and Gossip Girl drew millions of viewers, One Piece—the live-action adaptation of the adored Japanese manga series—came in first place.
With 71.6 million views and 541.9 million hours of viewing time, One Piece broke all previous records when it debuted in August 2023 and captivated viewers all across the world.
The series, created by showrunners Matt Owens and Steven Maeda, centers around the exploits of Iñaki Godoy’s character Monkey D. Luffy as he sets out to find a fabled treasure.
Even Stranger Things and Netflix’s Addams Family adaption couldn’t match One Piece’s success, even at a steep $17 million per episode.
