The director and star of the upcoming It Ends With Us adaptation, Justin Baldoni, answered some of the fans’ most pressing questions about the characters’ ages.
The Hollywood Reporter was informed by Baldoni that Colleen Hoover, the author of the best-selling novel, was the cause behind the characters’ aging.
Colleen intended the characters to be older when she first wrote this more than ten years ago, when everyone was writing young adult fiction, he said to the source.
“We focused more on making the story universal because it’s not just about a young woman; it’s about women in general, and it doesn’t discriminate.”
He went on, “So, it was more about making sure that as many people could relate to the characters and what Lily was going through for us.”
In addition to Baldoni, the film’s leading actors are Blake Lively and Brandon Sklenar.
Lily Bloom, portrayed by Lively, is just 23 years old at the beginning of the book. Lively, who is 36 years old, suggests that her character has likewise aged.
