The vocalist of “Truth or Dare,” Tyla, has solidified her place as the newest “it girl” in the fashion and music industries.
Tyla became the highest-charting African female solo performer in Billboard history when her viral amapiano-pop hit “Water” debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100.
According to Billboard, she is the first solo South African singer to enter the top 10 since 1968.
In addition to topping the US Afrobeats Songs and Hip-Hop/R&B charts, Tyla’s infectious dance anthem won her her first Grammy in February 2024 for Best African Music Performance.
She yelled, “What the heck?!” while performing. “This is crazy, I never thought I’d say I won a Grammy at 22 years old.”
On May 6, 2024, she made her Met Gala debut, and it was indeed unforgettable. Tyla completely reflected her “Sands of Time” motif, sporting an hourglass-shaped pocketbook and a Balmain gown fashioned from three tones of genuine sand.
Even though it was impossible to sit or walk due to the magnificent creation, Tyla redefined elegance in spite of “The Garden of Time” dress code.
After walking the carpet, Olivier Rousteing, the creative director of Balmain, had her brought up the famous Met stairs and cut the gown into a short dress.
Tyla’s Met Gala entrance is only one of several high points in a string of crucial occasions that have cemented her status as a worldwide star.
Working with companies like Alo Yoga and Beats by Dr. Dre, she added her own special touch to their marketing campaign by contributing the original song “Safer.”
Tyla, who recently won a Grammy and made a stunning Met Gala debut, is poised to keep shattering stereotypes and setting the standard for both fashion and music.
