As Turkey and Pakistan strengthen their relationship more and more Turkish celebrities are standing up for the social issues that Pakistan is currently facing. The motorway incident was the biggest tragedy in itself and the CCPO Lahore’s statement worked as an icing on the cake. CCPO Lahore faced immense criticism after saying that “I am surprised by the fact that the woman was traveling alone on the Motorway at night. She should have taken the GT Road route which has a population on both sides.”
Recently, Turkish actress Esra Bilgic who played the role of Halime Sultan has criticized the Lahore CCPO Umer Sheikh for victim-blaming the woman who was ganged raped in the motorway incident.
“Women can drive alone or with their children. The only thing you need to do is provide security,” wrote Bilgic. “You’re okay with gangs’ presence on your roads as a police officer? You think that if a woman chooses those roads to drive, there is a right to rape and kill them?”.”You’re displaying a shocking ignorance of this matter,” Bilgic continued in a series of now-deleted Instagram stories. “Before you advise, you should change your thoughts it seems impossible”.”What a shame on you and people like yourself!”
Esra took social networking website Instagram to give a reply to him. Although Sheikh apologized, the public did not find his statement to be sincere. And now Esra Bilgic has taken to her Instagram account calling him out for his misogynistic comments. We loved Esra then but now we love her more.
