Mohammad Faiq Replaces Suspended Haider Ali for Top-End T20 Series

KARACHI – The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has drafted Mohammad Faiq into the Pakistan Shaheens squad for the upcoming Top End T20 Series in Australia, replacing Haider Ali, who has been suspended following a police investigation in the UK.

The tournament, scheduled from August 14 to 24 in Darwin, will see the Shaheens face a mix of international and club teams, with their opening match against Bangladesh ‘A’ set for August 14.

Haider Ali’s suspension comes after Greater Manchester Police launched an inquiry into an incident reported during Pakistan Shaheens’ recent tour of England. The 23-year-old remains in the UK, has surrendered his passport to authorities, and is barred from leaving until the investigation concludes. Sources say he was released on bail after spending three days in custody.

The case stems from a complaint lodged by a British girl of Pakistani origin. Haider has been asked to return for further questioning in two weeks. The PCB, through the Pakistan High Commission in London, is providing him legal support via barrister Moeen Ali.

Haider’s absence is a setback for the Shaheens, as he was expected to play a key role in the tournament. The PCB’s decision to replace him reflects its emphasis on discipline and focus ahead of the event.

In another change, Mohammad Wasim Jr. has been brought in to replace left-arm pacer Salman Mirza, who was also dropped from the senior Pakistan team’s squad for the upcoming West Indies T20I series.

The Shaheens, led by Muhammad Irfan Khan, will aim to make a strong start in Australia, with the tournament final scheduled for August 24.
