Fast & Furious 9, Vin Diesel explains about the Series End

Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel has explained why the extremely popular movie series is coming to an end. The actor – who has played the character of Dominic Toretto since the franchise’s first installment in 2001 – revealed in a recent interview with the Associated Press that Universal Pictures plans to conclude the saga with two more movies after the upcoming F9. Diesel also said that the final two films could potentially release in 2023 and 2024 respectively. “Every story deserves its own ending,” he said.

Vin Diesel Explains:

“I know people are going to feel like it doesn’t have to end, but I think all good things should. There are reasons for a finale. I think this franchise has deserved it,” he added. Diesel also talked about how the series has come a long way, but he finally sees a finish line: “This franchise was born from the pavement, from the concrete. The world just championed this underdog to a place where it has already surpassed all of these other franchises. But the franchise has a soul, and that soul has to rest.”

Director Justin Lin

Director Justin Lin, who has directed five films of the series so far and is set to direct the final two as well, revealed that the idea to bring it to a close came during a conversation with Diesel. “We got together and Vin says ‘I think we should think about closing up the saga now,” he said. “Nine is kind of the first film of the final chapter. We’re kind of reconfiguring everything so that the next two movies should wrap up this amazing journey for these characters” Diesel also admitted that the announcement of the series’ conclusion brought his daughter to tears. Aww!

Fans of the franchise shouldn’t do the same just yet though, as Diesel ensured that the Fast & Furious cinematic universe will continue on. He previously announced a series of spin-offs, of which Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw was the first taste. Fast & Furious 9 is out in UK cinemas on June 24 and in US cinemas on June 25.
