FBR Launches Simplified Electronic Income Tax Return Form for 2025

ISLAMABAD – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has officially rolled out the simplified electronic income tax return form for the fiscal year 2025, media reports say.

The new form, finalized under SRO 1561 of 2025 after a 40-day public consultation, is currently available only in English, despite earlier government assurances that an Urdu version would be released.

Designed to make filing easier, the interactive system features eight digital windows, each with a single input column, allowing taxpayers to complete their returns step by step. It also includes an automated mechanism that integrates tax deduction data from purchases, assets, and income sources.

For instance, entering an employer’s name will automatically show deduction details. Withholding taxes linked to a filer’s CNIC, as well as bank account information, will also appear automatically, streamlining the process for users.

The simplified e-return form is intended for salaried individuals and small traders. Taxpayers whose income exceeds the threshold will be directed to the standard filing system.

In addition to SRO 1561, the FBR issued SRO 1562 of 2025, providing simplified forms for salaried persons, companies, Associations of Persons (AOPs), and professionals, in a bid to improve transparency and ease of compliance.

Overseas Pakistanis holding assets are also now required to submit an Electronic Foreign Income and Assets Declaration, detailing rental properties, business income, bank accounts, and other overseas investments.

Under the Income Tax Ordinance, the deadline for filing returns is September 30, 2025. Taxpayers are being encouraged to use the simplified system to ensure timely submission.
