FBR Cracks Down on Social Media Users Flaunting Wealth Without Paying Taxes

ISLAMABAD — The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is targeting social media users who showcase lavish lifestyles online but have failed to file their income tax returns, according to sources within the tax authority.

Insiders revealed that the FBR’s Social Media Monitoring Team has compiled detailed information on individuals flaunting expensive cars, motorcycles, yachts, luxury homes, designer clothing, jewelry, and high-end watches, yet remain non-compliant with tax laws.

The data also includes people posting videos of throwing money at extravagant weddings, music and dance events, and other public gatherings. Individuals sharing posts about staying in luxury hotels, dining at upscale restaurants, or traveling abroad without proper tax filings are also under scrutiny.

NADRA has assisted in verifying personal information, helping FBR build comprehensive profiles that include credit card and ATM transactions, as well as travel histories.

Sources confirmed that a final list of these individuals has been prepared, and enforcement actions are set to begin on October 1.

The FBR has issued a strict warning: September 30 is the final deadline to file income tax returns, and no extension will be granted. Those who continue to flaunt wealth online without paying taxes will receive notices and may face legal action.
