irst-year intermediate students would receive a 15 percent grace mark

Sindh provincial government released a statement stating that students in class XI of the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) who did not pass the examination in 2023 will receive 15 percent of their exam score back as grace.

Following the fact-finding committee’s report submission, which was ordered by Justice (retd) Baqir, the interim chief minister, a judgment was made.

The suggestions made by VC NED Dr. Sarosh Lodhi, the leader of the fact-finding team, have been accepted by the provincial chief executive.

Students in general science, pre-medical, and pre-engineering will receive the additional 15 points. The distribution of grace marks across the subject is as follows: Twelve in physics and statistics, and fifteen in mathematics. Twelve in biology, six in botany, and six in zoology.

The declaration of the purportedly contested results left thousands of students’ futures in limbo. Due to the fact that the majority of students failed the BIEK’s first-year scores, parents and students have been protesting in the streets for the past two weeks. The controversial outcomes appear to be dividing Sindh’s senior officials.

Governor Kamran Tessori voiced his worries about the problem, saying that the frightening number of 64% of Karachi students who failed their intermediate first-year exams is concerning. He maintained that even if the outcomes were changed, the detrimental effects would still persist.

The findings showed that 80% of candidates failed the first year of the Inter Arts Group (regular), 72% of candidates failed the first year of the Inter Arts Group (private), and 63% of candidates failed the first year of the Commerce Group (private).
