West Indies’ Matthew Forde Out with Shoulder Injury; Johann Layne Called Up for Pakistan ODI Series

West Indies cricket suffered a setback as pacer Matthew Forde dislocated his left shoulder during a training session, Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed. The injury happened while Forde was attempting to take a catch.

In response, CWI announced that West Indies Academy fast bowler Johann Layne will replace Forde in the squad for the three-match ODI series against Pakistan, starting this Friday. Layne’s inclusion comes after his impressive recent performances with the West Indies A team, earning him his first call-up to the senior side.

The ODI series kicks off today at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad. The second match is scheduled for August 10, followed by the final ODI on August 12.

West Indies coach Daren Sammy emphasized the importance of the series, noting that a win against Pakistan could significantly boost their chances of automatic qualification for the 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup.

“Pakistan presents a different test and challenge as we continue our push for automatic qualification for the 2027 World Cup,” Sammy said. “Matches against higher-ranked teams like Pakistan offer crucial opportunities to gain valuable ranking points.”
