‘Freaky Friday’ Cast Reflects on Cult Classic as Sequel Arrives in 2025
It’s hard to imagine now, but when the original Freaky Friday hit theaters, few predicted it would become a beloved cult classic—eventually leading to a 2025 sequel, Freakier Friday.
For Jamie Lee Curtis, who played Tess Coleman, the original film remains especially close to her heart.
“It was an unexpected moment for me professionally,” she shared in a behind-the-scenes feature included in Freakier Friday’s bonus content, according to E! News. “And then it became this pivoting moment for me, because the movie was such an enormous worldwide success.”
Curtis isn’t the only star who credits the film with shaping their career. Chad Michael Murray, reflecting on his own role, described it as a high point of his career.
“You know, 22 years ago, making a movie, I was new to town, and I got the opportunity to work with Jamie Lee and Lindsay, and just make a movie that hit on so many levels—so many people could relate to the story,” he said.
Lindsay Lohan, who played Anna Coleman, also fondly remembers her time on set. “We were just having such a great time, all the time,” the Mean Girls actress said. “I only have really happy memories of being on set.”
As fans gear up for Freakier Friday, the cast’s reflections remind us why the original film continues to hold a special place in pop culture.
