Fuel Prices Likely to Drop from September
ISLAMABAD – Petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan are expected to see a slight reduction at the start of September, sources confirmed on Friday.
According to initial calculations, petrol may become cheaper by 61 paisas per litre, while high-speed diesel could see a bigger cut of Rs3.13 per litre. Prices of other fuels are also expected to go down, with kerosene oil likely to drop by Rs1.57 per litre and light diesel by Rs2.61 per litre.
Officials said the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) will send its price adjustment summary to the Petroleum Division on August 31, after which the Prime Minister will give final approval. If cleared, the new rates will take effect from September 1, 2025.
Recent Price Revision
Earlier, on August 16, 2025, the federal government announced new fortnightly fuel prices. At that time, petrol was kept unchanged at Rs264.61 per litre, while high-speed diesel was reduced by Rs12.84 per litre to Rs272.99.
Kerosene oil saw a cut of Rs7.19 per litre, bringing the price to Rs178.27, and light diesel was reduced by Rs8.20 per litre to Rs162.37, according to a Finance Ministry notification.

Levy and Margins Increased
Despite these cuts, the government has raised the petroleum levy, limiting the relief for consumers. The levy on petrol and diesel has been increased by Rs2.50 per litre, with the rate on diesel rising from Rs74.51 to Rs77.01 per litre, and on petrol from Rs75.52 to Rs78.02 per litre.
The freight margin on diesel has also been revised upward by 20 paisas, reaching Rs6.24 per litre. A new climate support levy of Rs 2.50 per litre has been imposed on both petrol and diesel.
Meanwhile, the dealers’ margin stands at Rs8.64 per litre, and the distributors’ margin at Rs7.87 per litre. The sales tax on petrol and diesel remains at zero percent
