Ganguly Says Modern Pakistan Team ‘No Match’ for India, Switched to Manchester Derby
Kolkata – Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly expressed strong views on the current Pakistan cricket team during a media interaction in Kolkata on Monday.
Ganguly, 53, revealed that he switched his attention to the Manchester derby after just 15 overs of Sunday’s high-profile India-Pakistan clash. He said the declining standards of Pakistan’s team made the match less appealing for him.
“Pakistan is no longer a competitive side. I switched my TV to watch the Manchester derby after the first 15 overs. I would rather watch India play Australia, England, South Africa, or even Afghanistan than Pakistan,” Ganguly said.
The former captain reminisced about Pakistan’s golden era, when legends like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Javed Miandad, and Saeed Anwar graced the field.
“There is no competition between India and Pakistan anymore,” he said. “We remember Pakistan as the team of Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram, Saeed Anwar, and Javed Miandad. But today, it’s completely different – like chalk and cheese.”
Ganguly emphasized that India remains far ahead of Pakistan in cricketing quality.
“It’s the lack of quality on their side. This Indian team has played without Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who were the pillars of Indian cricket for so long. Yet India is way ahead of Pakistan and most Asia Cup teams,” he said.
He added: “There might be a day or two when Pakistan wins, but for the majority of matches, India is the dominant team.”
